What-are-the-key-differences-between-racial-and-ethnic-groups-sociology-homework-help

Read each paragraph and give me your opinion do you agree do you disagree with those 4 paragraphs one for each part and if you agree or disagreewhy or why not

1.What are the key differences between racial and ethnic groups?

The difference between racial and ethnic groups are racial groups are made up of individuals with similar physical characteristics, DNA similarities, and skin color; ethnic groups are combined of a group of individuals with cultures in common and made up of not just one “race” but a group of people who share the same ethics and morals as well.

What does it mean to say that race and ethnicity are social constructions?

Identifying race and ethnicity can help protect each class from hate crimes and violence as well as allow the prosecution to apply additional charges for crimes committed. I think it’s important to consider race, ethnicity, and gender as social constructions because it allows us to feel compassion towards a group of individuals that are from a specific group of individuals.

In what way is gender a social, rather than a biological concept? Do you see any differences in how gender is constructed, versus, race and ethnicity?

I think gender is social rather than a biological concept especially now because gender has transformed into a personal decision based on an individual’s decision for their selves as opposed to the concept of your born biologically a female and that is how you have to stay. I think the acceptance of one’s individual right to choose their gender based on their personal feeling or calling for whom they are.

2.Ethnic is distinguished by cultural traits and racial is distinguished by physical traits (Healey & O’Brien, 2015). Race can be described as a set of biological properties (Gallagher, 2012). An ethnic group could share the same language, family structure, religion, or lifestyle (Gallagher, 2012). In the United States, there have been many issues with classifying people between race and ethnicity. Cultural diversity is only growing which lead the United States to revise their standard of collecting information about a person’s race/ethnicity (Gallagher, 2012). This lead to more options on paperwork when people were asked to fill out race/ethnicity.

Social construction is how a person is perceived by others and how a person perceives others. This could be within a group of people who have a similar social background. This is a significant way that people differentiate one person from another (Healey & O’Brien, 2015). Race and gender are two of the major traits someone notices about a person. Race is purely a social construction that can change over a period of time and can also go from one social environment to another (Gallagher, 2012). It is important to consider race, ethnicity, and gender as social constructions because these are the first things people notice about one another. Race is not clearly defined. There is not line between someone who has black skin or white skin. Someone can have the skin tone of a white person and the hair texture of a black person (Gallagher, 2012). So where does this leave this person on the race scale? Ethnicity is important because this is more of how someone sees them self. They identify with a group of people and classify as that ethnicity. Racialization is when an identity is placed on a group of people based upon a racial aspect and social hierarchy (Healey & O’Brien, 2012). This was first started when different groups of people came over to the United States and they were classified by their race as a group of people.

When considering gender, social construction comes into play in different ways. One of the ways is what is seen as typical in a man or woman (Gallagher, 2012). This can be averages, tendencies, or probabilities (Gallagher, 2012). Another is what is thought to be appropriate for each gender. Behavior between gender varies from country to country making it believable that there is not a link between gender and genetics or biological traits (Gallagher, 2012). Gender is seen different from race and ethnicity because it is something that is viewed differently all over the world. In some countries, males are dominant and women have no rights. If gender was biological, in this aspect, all genders would have the same equality around the world.

3. The increasing diversity of the US population can be an opportunity rather than a detriment; for individuals, society, and institutions. Looking at just the mental make of people, if everybody was the same, we would never have advanced society. If there were not people who thought differently about the world, and acted upon it, the world as we know it would not have existed. People who change the world and its way of thinking, were often ostracized from others. Think Vincent Van Gogh, Albert Einstein, Aristotle, Isaac Newton, Shakespeare, Mozart, and even Galileo Galilei. In America itself, we have so many different types of people that we should be able to know a little bit about everyone. We are literally referred to as the melting pot country. By having diversity in the workplace, not only can similar groups relate, but the understanding of different cultures and beliefs are also being absorbed. When at an ATM, you will be asked what language you would like to proceed with, and these are the little things that we do to accommodate all the different countries that have found a home here in America. When you are in need of help, it would be helpful for someone to understand what you are trying to convey, like at a hospital or police station.

Diversity can create challenges for society as well as opportunities. One challenge that seems to be present, is having a female for President. While Hilary Clinton would like to change, and I would not mind seeing a fellow female in charge, as an individual she would not be right for the job. While some people claim she’s not ‘good’ enough for it simply because she’s a girl, they are completely missing the beliefs she has. This seems to broaden into the fact that many face discrimination based on looks alone, and not being bothered to look at them individually. “Each of us belongs to multiple groups and social categories”. (Healy and O’Brien, 2015, pg. 4). People like to group subjects, fit them into boxes, and assume knowledge about a person.

The issue of social discrimination should start at a micro level, and turn into a macro later on. It’s the little things that make the biggest differences. You hear about how a single person started a revolution or changed the world. Now imagine if millions of people around the world decided to look at a person’s ‘inside’ and not judge them on appearances first. I think of Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King JR who changed the world, all because they stood up for what they believed in.

4. Diversity has been growing in the United States for many years. Immigration rates have nearly tripled over the last few decades (Healey & O’Brien, 2015). This gives the United States many opportunities. Instead of looking at the increasing diversity as a bad thing, people can start looking at it as an opportunity to broaden their horizon. When diversity grows, American people learn more about things around the world. Especially for children in the United States. Children will be able to learn about other races and ethnicities first hand. Being taught something in school is a lot different than seeing it first hand in their classroom. Learning to accept people of other races and ethnicities is important because there are all different types of people in the world that we will have to work with in all different settings. Diversity creates many challenges in society. One of the challenges it creates is equality is the discrimination and stereotyping amongst class of people. Someone who is balck and also gay may have a very hard time getting a job because certain people discriminate against gay or black people. People who are labeled blue collar or white collar have different issues when dealing with life. People have more to them just a race or a statue in the economics. People can be gay and Hispanic, a person can be white and poor. There is not just white and black, male and female, and white collar and blue collar. The discrimination and stereotyping is a huge challenge in the United States. Even after all the discrimination issues that have been resolved since slavery times, it still seems to be an issue. Intersectionality is a theory that explains this issue. It is important to not listen to all the stereotypes out there that state all Irish are drinkers, or all black people are lazy (Healey & O’Brien, 2015). This theory emphasizes that groups are differentiated and not all people of the same group are the same (Healey & O’Brien, 2015). Stereotyping and discrimination has been around for a long time. It has come from ancestors who engraved in their offspring’s head that a certain type of person is a certain way. This should be addressed because with diversity only increasing, there will be more types of people that we come into contact with. Deciding someone is a certain way before actually knowing anything about them is a form of stereotyping that the United Stats has to get rid of. This issue needs to be addressed individually and as whole. It is a problem of whole societies. I think with the growing diversity people are becoming less discriminatory and less stereotyping but not as fast as society needs. When addressing this issue individually, parents should educated their children about diversity and not discriminating. This will take time, but eventually people would be accepting of different cultures.

business-goals

We’ve learned how big of an advantage that technology can be in today’s business environment. Every major strategic management goal will make use of multiple types of technology during implementation. In this assignment, you will need to create a presentation for the upper management at your chosen course project business. The presentation will focus on suggesting two pieces of technology that you feel are essential to the implementation of your chosen strategic management goal. This presentation will be in PowerPoint and requires the recording of audio. Below is a detailed breakdown of what should be included in the presentation. Remember that presentations need to engage the audience through visual and auditory means. Use PowerPoint’s features to accomplish this.

  • Create a title slide.
  • Summarize the goal you are trying to accomplish and the value it will bring to the business.
  • Identify two pieces of technology that you believe are essential to you accomplishing your chosen strategic management goal.
    • What are the strengths and weaknesses of each technology?
    • Why is each of these pieces of technology important to the implementation and execution of your chosen goal?
  • Provide research that supports your technology choices.
    • Cite a minimum of 1 scholarly source.
      • Include a final APA works cited slide.
  • Format the presentation so that it’s engaging and employs advanced formatting features such as templates, transitions, charts, or video.
  • Use the “Audio” feature under the “Insert” tab in PowerPoint to record the audio for the presentation.
    • It’s important to be informative while still being persuasive. Focus on explaining the use of the technology and the value that the technology will bring to the business if used correctly.

The stage is set for your strategic goal to become a reality. Before that can happen, you’ll need to think through and map out the tasks within the project. This assignment will focus on planning out the individual aspects of the project using the project management tools that you’ve previously learned. You will be able to use Word or Excel for this assignment. (Choose whichever you’re more familiar with.) It’s important to think through the goal you’re trying to accomplish and how you’ll reach it. The more detailed you can be with your tasks, the smoother the project management cycle will go. Your submission this week should accomplish the following:

  • Create a basic chart that lists out at least 8 tasks required to complete your chosen strategic management goal and estimates on how long each will take to complete.
  • Create a Gantt chart using the tasks listed in the previous chart.
  • Create a network diagram using the tasks listed out in the previous chart.
  • Analyze your created Gantt chart and network diagram. Identify two potential issues that may be a cause for concern when the project gets underway.

disaster-and-communicable-disease-preparedness

Disaster and Communicable Disease Preparedness

Preparing for disasters, terrorist threats, or communicable disease outbreaks is an important part of public health nursing. Visit the websites http://www.ready.gov and http://www.ready.gov/pandemic. Review the steps for being prepared for a disaster or pandemic.

  • Choose a natural or man-made disaster that could impact your community and discuss how a CHN can help the community to prepare or respond to this disaster.
  • Choose a potential infectious disease outbreak and discuss how a CHN can help to prevent or respond to an outbreak.
  • How well is your community prepared for a potential outbreak or disaster?

Federal Emergency Management Agency. (2016). Ready: Prepare. Plan. Stay Informed. Retrieved from http://www.ready.gov/.

Federal Emergency Management Agency. (2016). Pandemic. Retrieved from http://www.ready.gov/pandemic

Disasters can occur suddenly and without warning; usually with no way to prevent them. However, communities can prepare for them. It is important that communities are assisted in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from a disaster. The CHN advocates for a safe environment and may have an active role in each phase of disaster management. Examine the steps for preparedness and determine what you consider priorities. Also, compare these steps to your own community’s preparedness. It will be interesting to see how prepared you are!
